Activity Modelling

The final aspect in our basic dependency model is capturing Activities. An Activity may be referred to by your organisation as a Function. It is an action that is carried out by your organisation to service a need of your stakeholders. The stakeholders being, shareholders, clients, suppliers, staff, etc. For example an activity could be a service that you deliver to your clients, or the payment of salaries to staff.

Activities are supported by business processes that are required to deliver the function. These may be shared across multiple activities, for example Email delivery will almost certainly be used by a number of activities within your organisation.

The Dependency Model

The final level are resources that are consumed by the business processes. These resources can be staff, materials, equipment, servers, applications, etc. Again these resources can be shared by multiple processes. The problem of understanding these complex relationships is why we use dependency modelling.
