How do I assign a Recovery Time Objective?
The Recovery Time Objective is set within the Activity Dependency Model. This measure is in hours and is applied at the Activity level and represents the target recovery time for this activity. Once you save this value, the platform automatically derives a Recovery Time Objective for each process and resource on which the Activity depends. It does this taking into situations where the process or resource may support other unrelated activities.
As a result although the Recovery Time Object is visible in each process and resource, it may not be edited as this is a calculated value.
The calculation for Recovery Time works in a similar way, but is calculated from the bottom up and is therefore only set at the resource level. The Recovery Time represents the actual time that it takes to recover this resource.
When the recovery time is applied at the resource level, the platform detects this change and moves the value up the model applying it to processes and ultimately activities. This again is carried out taking into account any cross dependencies. As a result the recovery time values in both process and activity are calculated and are therefore not editable.
A comparison of Recovery Time Objective and Recovery Time provides you with an immediate indication of whether your activity is capable of recovering in a timely manner.
